The walk around the rim
The walk around the crater is about 1.5 miles (2.4 kilometers) long, and takes about two hours to complete. It is an easy walk with a few uphill sections. The trail is well-marked and there are several rest areas along the way.
The crater of Kilauea is one of the most active volcanoes in the world, and has been erupting continuously since 1983. The lava lake inside the crater is usually about 100 feet (30 meters) below the rim of the crater, but can be much higher or lower depending on activity levels.
The views from the crater rim are amazing, and you can often see lava flowing into the ocean from here. If you are lucky, you might even see a volcano eruption!
